Is children’s mental health the next big epidemic?

Beverley Marshall will be introducing this 'Policy over a pint' discussion held jointly between the Social Policy Forum and Parents Forum to discuss the rise of children's mental health on the political agenda.

7:00pm, Thursday 19 November 2015, The Sun, 21 Drury Lane, Covent Garden, WC2B 5RH

The Labour Party has created a shadow Minister for Mental Health – a post never before established in Parliament. The increased profile of mental health as a topic of public discussion is not just about adult mental health and dementia in older people. For instance, it was recently reported that universities do not have the facilities to cope with the high numbers of students presenting with mental health issues. ‘Future in Mind’, new government guidance, is aimed at ‘promoting, protecting and improving our children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing’.

What is going on? Are young people under more pressure than before or is something else responsible for the rise in young people with mental health problems? How should society respond?

There will be a small charge to cover room hire.
