European election: can the EU be reformed?

7:00pm, Thursday 23 May 2019, Café Manstein, Mansteinstr. 4, 10783 Berlin-Schöneberg

For years, important EU reforms have been considered and discussed, yet little has ever happened.

The EU should learn from Brexit and reform itself, said French President Emmanuel Macron in the spring of this year. But the call for reform is as old as the EU itself. Former Commission President José Barroso promised a renewal in 2005 and launched a ‘Partnership for Prosperity, Solidarity and Security’ initiative. EU sceptics point out that the EU has become increasingly rigid in recent years - and especially since the debt crisis.

What does it mean if we are called upon to vote for a strong Europe in the upcoming elections? Is it about reforms or to maintain the status quo?
