Academy of Ideas Freedom School
Living Freedom is our annual two-day residential school aimed at 18-25-year-olds interested in exploring ideas around the past, present and future of freedom.
Inaugurated in 2017, and based at the CIEE Global Institute in central London, the school provides a stimulating forum for around 40 young advocates of freedom to attend expert talks and participate in meaningful debates. As well as the chance to get to grips with the key thinkers and engage in a series of intellectual challenges the school provides a social forum, offering a chance to meet and socialise with peers from throughout the UK and beyond.
Topics covered include the philosophy of freedom, free will and determinism and freedom of conscience; lectures and debates provide an open dialogue on classic texts and hot issues from the problem of individual autonomy to liberty and the state, the case for democracy to contemporary controversies around free speech and the culture wars. Attendees will engage in a series of workshop challenges, and will benefit from a dedicated Topic Guide containing useful essays, articles and podcasts related to each of the sessions. Interested in developing the knowledge, ideas and arguments that can help to revitalise freedom as a political project and a lived experience? If so, Living Freedom is the place for you.
