Discussion one in a series in the lead-up to Institute of Ideas Academy.

7:00pm, Monday 27 April 2015, Room G24, Foster Court, London, WC1E 6BT

The Arts and Society Forum has organised a series of discussions, The Theatre and the Public, looking at the history of the theatre and its relationship to the public. The series reflects the themes in the Literature strand of lectures at the fifth IoI Academy, a residential weekend of self-education and discussion from 18-20 July.

You are very welcome to attend even if you do not plan to come to the Academy. You do not need to commit to attending all the sessions.

In this session, playwright and theatre critic Patrick Marmion will introduce the series by looking at the emergence of Renaissance theatre as a public form. He will focus on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Other related texts include The Castle of Perseverance and James Shirley’s The Doubtful Heir.
