Brecht and the need to alienate the Public

Discussion four in a series in the lead-up to Institute of Ideas Academy.

7:00pm, Monday 6 July 2015, Room G24, Foster Court, London, WC1E 6BT

The Arts and Society Forum has organised a series of discussions, The Theatre and the Public, looking at the history of the theatre and its relationship to the public. The series reflects the themes in the Literature strand of lectures at the fifth IoI Academy, a residential weekend of self-education and discussion from 18-20 July.

You are very welcome to attend even if you do not plan to come to the Academy. You do not need to commit to attending all the sessions.

In this session, playwright and theatre critic Patrick Marmion returns to conclude the series by looking at Brecht’s political theatre, with a particular focus on the Life of Galileo. Related texts include Mother Courage and Her Children, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui and Caucasian Chalk Circle.
